World Cities Summit 2016
Thematic Track on 'Financing a Sustainable Urban Future'

The NUS Institute of Real Estate Studies co-hosted a thematic track in World Cities Summit 2016 on the 13th of July at Marina Bay Sands Singapore. This was organized in partnership with Singapore's Centre for Liveable Cities and the Urban Redevelopment Authority.

The track, comprising two sequential discussion panels, deliberated on the opportunities and challenges cities face in financing a sustainable urban future.

The first session on 'Financing the Infrastructure Gap - The Road Ahead' was chaired by Ms Yumiko Noda (Partner and Head of PPP and Infrastructure Asia Pacific, PwC). Panel speakers included: Ms Amy Leung (Deputy Director General, East Asia Department, Asian Development Bank), Mr Clive Kerner (CEO, Clifford Capital), Mr Terry Fanous (Managing Director, Moody's Investors Service) and Mr Pete Daw (Director, Urban Development, Global Centre of Competence Cities, Siemens).

Professor Yongheng Deng (Provost's Chair Professor of Real Estate and Finance, Director, Institute of Real Estate Studies, NUS) chaired the second session of the track which focused on 'Life-Cycle Financing for an Ageing Population - Managing Future Demands'. Speakers of this session included: Professor Joseph Cherian (Director, Center for Asset Management Research & Investments, NUS Business School), Professor Man Cho (Korea Development Institute and the KDI School), Mr Mark Whatley (Senior Consulting Actuary and Director, Benefits, South East Asia, Willis Towers Watson), Dr Jeremy Lim (Partner, Singapore and Head of Health and Life Sciences, Asia Pacific, Oliver Wyman) and Mr Jürg Wichtermann (Chancellor - Chief Administrative Officer of Berne, Switzerland).
