Associate Professor Yu Shi Ming

YU Shi-Ming obtained his undergraduate degree in Urban Valuation from the University of Auckland, NZ, under the Colombo Plan Scholarship. He obtained his Masters and PhD from the University of Reading, UK. He joined NUS as a Senior Tutor in 1981 and since then has extensive teaching, research and consultancy experience over the last 30 years. He has taught and published in the areas of real estate appraisal, housing and urban and facilities management. He has published in the leading journals in real estate such as Real Estate Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Environment and Planning, Journal of Property Research, Journal of Property Investment and Finance and Journal of Property Tax Assessment and Administration.

Dr Yu currently is a board member of the Asian Real Estate Society and the President of the Global Chinese Real Estate Congress (2019-2020). Locally, he is a member of the Resource Acquisition and Compensation Panel, member of the Resource Panel for the Government Parliamentary Committee of the Ministries of National Development and Environment and Water Resources, member of the executive committee of the West Coast Town Council and Vice-chairman of the West Coast Consultative Committee.  He was also a past president of the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers and the Asian Real Estate Society.

At NUS, he was Vice-Dean of the School of Design and Environment from 2000-2007 and Head of the Department of Real Estate from 2007-2013 and 2017-2019. He was awarded the Public Service Star in 2017, the Public Service Medal in 2002 and the Commendation Medal (Military) in 2004. He was also awarded the MND Medallion in 2015 and 2016 and was NSman of the Year 1999.
